Domestic Abuse and Covid-19

  • Posted

Compared to other periods over the last 10 years, more than double the amount of people have been killed owing to domestic abuse in the three weeks of the lockdown.  This is according to a study reported on 15 April 2020.  It is the highest that it has been for at least 11 years with 16 domestic abuse killings in the last three weeks.

Jennifer Roulston, Family Law Partner at FDR Law with offices at Stockton Heath, Warrington and Frodsham says,

“This is creating a crisis in a crisis for so many people and children. Our Family Law department is seeing that self-isolation has the potential to aggravate pre-existing abusive behaviour.  Isolation can then be used as a tool of control.  Our Family Law Department has many years’ experience working with people in this situation and is continuing to assist people going through relationship difficulties”.
