A leading litigator who has a proven track record of winning cases againt the Child Support Agency is to be a keynote speaker at Resolutions Family Law Conference in Manchester.

Stephen Lawson, of Cheshire based firm FDR, has a track record of successfully representing parents with care and non-resident parents in high profile cases against what was the CSA.  With the well known problems facing the CSA in recent years Stephen has, by invitation, liaised with the Department for Work and Pensions on CSA reforms which have culminated in the creation of the Child Maintenance Executive Committee (C-MEC).

Stephen will be sharing his experiences with Resolution members at the Manchester Conference in March, “I am delighted to be able to share my experience with Resolution members.  A lot of my work against the CSA has been done in conjunction with Resolution members so I feel I have a good understanding of what family lawyers should be looking at and asking when dealing with the CSA, or now C-MEC.”

Stephen continues, “I am a litigator and not a family lawyer.  My work against the CSA came about over a decade ago with one case which was passed to me by one of my family law colleagues at FDR.  I have subsequently acted on many matters referred by other solicitors who felt my resulting knowledge in these matters would serve their clients best interests.  It still amazes me how many child maintenance issues are brought about due to ineffective procedures or management on behalf of the bodies which are supposed to provide a fair system.  In some matters the problem has been that these government bodies simply haven’t had the jurisdiction to do what is expected of them.”

Stephen is a member of Resolutions Children Panel and has previously advised Resolution on matters relating to Child Maintenance.  Stephen is also National Secretary of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL).
