Disputes involving children are extremely sensitive and, as such, these cases can be traumatic for all parties involved. It is important that solicitors are able to maintain a professional, yet considerate approach. Our team has many years’ specialist experience within this area and is accredited to the Law Society Children’s Panel.
We are often involved in the resolution of disputes over children including contact and residence matters and areas relating to other specific issues, e.g. which school a child should attend and requests to take a child to live abroad or to another part of England & Wales.
One of our team is a member of the International Lawyers listing by Reunite and has experience in child abduction cases.
Children frequently suffer in the short, medium and long term on the separation of their parents. In all cases involving children, their welfare is regarded as being of paramount importance. When resolving the financial issues of the parties who have children, the children’s interests are among those which are weighed up by the Court and are often a determining factor.
We realise that it is important to consider the benefits of negotiating a settlement of some or all of the issues in relation to children. This can be discussed in the collaborative law process. After all it makes sense for parents to come to an agreement as regards their children without Court intervention, when possible.
Also, we have the knowledge and experience of dealing with other areas of law regarding children, such as adoption and special guardianship.
